Senior Media Relations Manager at listed global brokerage giant

This listed global insurance brokerage firm has carved out a new role of Senior Media Relations Manager to win over trade and business press and build the story around the business. 

The Company

This brokerage firm look after individual clients to FTSE organisations, oversee the retail arm across UK branches, manage a wholesale division plus underwriting services. It’s seen as an ethical company within the industry and they are a great company to work for as they and see the value of communications both internally and externally.

The comms team is based in smart modern central London offices and culturally the business has a family feel; there is a lot of trust, pride and sense of value. The comms team are good calibre, impressive operators with a clear vision for the brand.

The Role 

Key challenges and opportunities in this Senior Media Relations Manager role:

• Head up external media relations and be the ambassador for the company
• You will be handling mainly proactive work, but they are also looking for you to be a ‘go to’ commentator for insurance broking within the media
• Look after crisis and issues management
• Develop a media relations strategy and have a watertight content strategy in place
• Work with the team and PR agency to generate content and develop a thought-leadership strategy
• You will be responsible for getting news agenda out there and commenting on issues – this could be talking about issues such as risk management to trade credit etc.

The Person

Key attributes and experience for this Senior Media Relations Manager role:

• You will have solid experience of corporate communications for financial services working at Associate Director level at an agency or in house as a Senior Manager/Head of Media. Alternatively you will be a journalist with extensive knowledge of the insurance industry. 
• Strong media relations experience with insurance trade press and national business press is required
• Have evidence of crisis communications experience
• Influential, positive disposition and proactive in your approach
• Be a grounded, down to earth communications professional who is prepared to ‘get stuck in’
• Confidence to take news stories and make them your own through news hijacking
