Are you up to the challenge of leading and managing communications for a busy local authority? Do you have the political acumen required?

Harborough District Council has a population of around 85,000 in a fast growing, mixed urban and rural part of the country. We are now looking for someone to provide professional leadership to our marketing and communications team, including advising leaders on strategy and issue management, managing internal communication and supporting a range of partnerships.

An outstanding communicator, you will have a successful track record at management level in leading a communications function – ideally with local government experience, a good understanding of the policy context relevant to a local authority and experience of managing public relations and communications in a complex and demanding organisation with multiple stakeholders. You must be able to provide evidence of providing communications advice to senior leaders, sometimes on complex, sensitive or contentious issues, and have the ability to build effective relationships.

You should have a collaborative style and a strong commitment to high performance. You will be clear sighted and a lateral thinker with an ability to challenge constructively

You will have experience of managing staff resources, planning and monitoring budgets, and of leading, implementing and managing change and service improvement. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
