Media Officer

An established local government body is urgently searching for a creative Media Officer to join their team. Primarily, you will support the delivery of first-class communications activities and help with the running of media campaigns and activities that support the local authority in delivering its priorities. 

This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven individual  who has a strong passion for politics to work as part of a well-recognised team within a varied role. You will be delivering media briefings and speaking with MP’s and journalists from a variety of media outlets, e.g local, national and regional press. Other responsibilities include creating PR strategy and working closely with the digital team, creating social media content, videos, newsletters and podcasts. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Working on a podcast and writing a  variety of communications materials such as press releases and blogs
  • Supporting the Head of Communications and Communications Managers in managing day-to-day media relations, ensuring enquiries are dealt with promptly and that news is disseminated effectively
  • Developing close relationships with the council’s partners and other key organisations
  • Building long lasting relationships with journalists

 

Requirements:

  • Solid experience of delivering communications/public relations in customer led organisations / the public sector 
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills with the ability to present targeted messages to different audiences
  • An understanding of local government, the public sector and its political/corporate environment
  • Flexibility with working hours to attend events & run specific time sensitive campaigns
  • Strong ability to challenge and initiate ideas and solutions
