Why Internal Communications?

With so much going on, our role in internal communications has never been more important. Our mission is to help everyone in the business understand what we’re doing and where we’re going; to create a community of 100,000 advocates working for one company with a shared vision and purpose. We work to ten clear principles that help shape the work we do, so we can play our part in making BT a brilliant place to work. It’s challenging, at times exhausting, but it’s also hugely rewarding and fun. And we’re in it together.

Why this job matters?

We’re made up of seven units – customer-facing and corporate. Although we might support different parts of the business, we’re all working for one company and the work we do in internal communications needs to reflect that.

That’s where you come in. Working into the internal corporate communications director, you’ll play a really important part in making sure that whatever we do, we do it consistently brilliantly. Alongside one other Change and Transformation manager, you’ll be responsible for shaping and sharing BT-wide communications to our 100,000 employees.

You’ll be a creative and excellent content creator, experienced in advising and identifying the best way to land messages, working across wide range of channels. You’ll have a knack for building strong and respectful relationships with stakeholders, knowing how and when to challenge to get the best results for internal communications. And you’ll be a dab hand at unearthing and sharing best practice, identifying ways to make BT-wide communications work harder, and finding new ways to make the stuff we do better and better.

You’ll know what it’s like to deliver brilliant communications to a large audience, working closely with your network in internal comms and the wider business to make sure that what you do lands as well as possible.

You’ll be a firm advocate for BT and the stuff we deliver for our employees, sharing best practice with the wider internal communications team, proactively providing ideas, protecting and promoting our brand and inspiring others.

  • be a brand champion, working to ensure whatever you do protects and promotes our brand
  • demonstrate a clear understanding of our IC strategy, bringing it to life in the work that you do
  • constantly be on the lookout for new ideas to improve what you and the wider team do and drive advocacy of our brand

Skills required for the role

  • Confidence to work with and advise stakeholders in line with internal comms priorities and principles
  • Excellent stakeholder management, at all levels
  • Demonstrable understanding of BT and passion for the brand
  • Ability to communicate complicated, multi-faceted plans to wide range of audiences in a simple and engaging way
