Job Details
About us
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is a central government department with a mission to protect our country and provide the ultimate guarantee of its security and independence, as well as helping to protect its values and interests abroad.
To do this we must meet a complex range of threats and challenges in a rapidly changing world. We must adapt to stay ahead and shape our capability to address tomorrow’s threats. We are building more versatile and agile forces for the future, and ensuring our people have everything they need to do what we ask of them.
The role
We’re now looking for a highly experienced professional to act as principal advisor to the Air Force Board Executive on all engagement and communications issues.
Heading up a team of around 70 full-time civilian and military staff, together with 50 part- time RAF Reservists, you’ll lead the full range of RAF engagement, communications, media, brand and reputational activity.
You’ll also own and deliver all RAF communication strategies (both internal and external) and, on behalf of the Assistant Chief of the Air Service (ACAS), the RAF Engagement Strategy.
About you
You’re already highly experienced in developing and delivering engagement and communications strategies for a complex organisation. On top of this, you’ll demonstrate:
- the knowledge and credibility to regularly and comfortably brief stakeholders of the highest seniority
- experience in leading presentational aspects of high-profile, real-time incidents and managing crisis situations
- an ability to work across boundaries to achieve results in a large and complex organisation
- an understanding of the senior structures, organisations and mechanisms delivering the strategic communications of Defence
- commercial marketing and communications experience
- a strong understanding of the RAF
Closing date: 1 September 2019.
Company
What is the Ministry of Defence?
Simply, it is the organisation that enables the Armed Forces to do their job. But it is much more than that. As Civil Servants we are involved in every facet of defence: from procuring and maintaining the equipment that our Military colleagues use on operations and supporting Ministers in implementing defence policy.
Where can you find us?
We go wherever our Armed Forces colleagues go; most of our opportunities are within the UK in almost every part of the country, although we do have a significant amount of civilian posts around the world including opportunities to undertake voluntary operational tours in places such as Bosnia and Iraq.
