Imperial Tobacco UK (ITUK), part of the FTSE 30 Imperial Brands Group has an exciting opportunity for a UK Government Affairs Manager to join our well established and driven Corporate & Legal Affairs team based in Bristol. 

Working with our Senior UK Government Affairs manager, the UK Government Affairs Manager will be part of the team responsible for managing and delivering the public policy, regulatory agenda and political engagement in the UK, including Westminster, Scottish Government, Welsh Assembly and Northern Ireland Executive and is responsible for helping ensure ITUK is a well-respected and trusted partner. 

Working within a highly regulated sector, you will be responsible for engaging with senior stakeholders both internally within Imperial Brands and externally across Westminster (and the devolved nations) to educate and influence the UK regulatory environment whilst maintaining a strong emphasis on our commercial and regulatory strategies.  

Key accountabilities:

Develop a comprehensive understanding of the social, economic, political and regulatory environment in which the company operates Drive pro-active and direct engagement with key political stakeholders on all relevant issues in support of CLA and business objectives Support the company’s response to Government consultations; contribute to, and manage where required, the preparation of responses relating to tobacco and nicotine products and corporate issues relevant to the UK and Group Represent ITUK on relevant trade associations and business organisations, with focus on issues of commercial interest Using a variety of communication channels inform and update internal stakeholders for the benefit of the CLA and wider commercial objectives of ITUK Responsible for the management of the UK corporate responsibility agenda, UK Youth Access Prevention strategy, litter initiatives and single-use plastics policy development Be an active member of the ITUK CLA team, facilitate cross-functional working where appropriate and champion CLA internally across the business Contribute to the Global CA community, take part in the Global CA webinar and share learnings across markets Deputize for Senior Government Affairs Manager at internal and external meetings to deliver corporate positions and ensure consistency of message Manage, with the direction of the Senior Government Affairs Manager, external public affairs/ PR agencies with particular focus on engagement strategies

Skills & experience:

Experience of working within a similar role in-house in a regulated industry or experience of working in parliament Good working knowledge of the UK political and parliamentary processes Strong stakeholder management skills with a track record of engaging and influencing both internally and externally Strong commercial awareness and/or understanding of the challenges faced by FMCG companies Highly literate and ability to create engaging and accurate communications, written consultation documents, policy briefings and business updates
