The Director of Communications and Policy will contribute directly to this exciting next stage of its journey. 

The Charity Commission is seeking a talented individual to lead its Communications and Policy Directorate, to bring its purpose and strategy to life by helping it drive change within the organisation and across the sector so that Charity delivers maximum benefit to society in a way that upholds its reputation in the eyes of the public. As a non- Ministerial Government Department of around 420 staff, SCS 1 Director roles at the Commission are unusually impactful and influential. As well as being accountable for the outcomes and activities of their individual Directorates, together with the CEO and as members of the senior leadership team, directors are responsible for driving through the whole business plan within a budget of £27 million. 

This significant and exciting role is based in London but will require travel to other offices (particularly in Liverpool).  The Director of Communications and Policy is responsible for strategic policy, media, public affairs, strategic & digital communications, events and guidance to trustees. With a staff team of 40 staff and accountability for an annual spend of £2.6 million, you will lead and deliver a visionary communications strategy, aligned to the corporate plan and will play a proactive and critical role in ensuring that the Commission continues to have a voice.      

This role requires an individual with an outstanding senior leadership track record of communications strategy, policy development and operational delivery. You will have the drive and insight to help the Charity Commission further evolve and continue to influence across the sector in which it operates and with its many critical stakeholders, including government. You will understand what it takes to work in a complex, fast paced and challenging environment and will bring the vision and ability to challenge the status quo.  With the ability to lead, inspire and motivate high-performing teams, you will promote and inspire cultural change and work with a range of partners and individuals to drive excellent outcomes. Above all, as a key member of the leadership team, you will be committed to delivering our vision in line with our five strategic objectives.
