Job Details

  • Lead, design and take overall responsibility for the delivery of strategic digital communications and marketing in the organisation's  Communications and Marketing team
  • Devise and deliver strategic digital programmes and amplification opportunities to position the organisation, internally and externally, as the world leading research-intensive art and design postgraduate university
  • Ensure digital is at the heart of – and fully integrated within, leverages off and is responsive to –  the wider Communications & Marketing team’s measurable strategic communications and marketing multi-channel plan
  • Work collaboratively with the Communications and Marketing team and across the organisation  to support internal and external communications, including, for example:
  • Recruitment marketing initiatives focussed on attracting high quality students from around the world, supporting them through the student journey (application, offer, acceptance, registration)
  • Adopt an evidence based approach which delivers effective digital communications to meet objectives set
  • Take responsibility, as a strategic lead in the Communications & Marketing team, for developing new thinking, bringing a fresh perspective and championing best practice

Main responsibilities

  • Design and deliver of the digital element of the overall strategic measurable communications and marketing multi-channel plan
  • Lead the development and delivery of the  website, ensuring it positions the College effectively among key audiences
  • Provide digital insight and deliver innovative tactics to support the recruitment journey of high quality students from application to acceptance
  • Use analytics and other key indicators to inform strategy and tactics
  • Work with the wider Communications & Marketing team to develop and draft digital and traditional communications and messaging
  • Advise on, direct and manage relationships with external agencies as appropriate to meet set goals

Delivery of measurable strategic marketing programme which supports business imperatives

  • Work with the Communications & Marketing team strategic leads to define digital opportunities to increase the impact of the overall Communications & Marketing programme
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in the Schools, including the Deans, programme leads, and the Director of Research and Innovation and the Director of Development and Alumni Relations, to support key business imperatives, partner arrangements and development opportunities with digital activities

Presentation and formal updates

  • Design and present the digital programme to key stakeholders
  • Report formally each month and on ad hoc basis to the Director of Communications & Marketing

Team leadership

The Executive Lead -  Digital will be expected to

  • Act as Communications & Marketing strategic lead, with line management responsibility for at least [two] cross team members
  • Be an advocate for the wider Communications & Marketing team, supporting key initiatives and participating in key events
  • Be fully involved in the development and delivery of the Communications & Marketing strategic plan
  • Develop team members across the Communications & Marketing canvas through development, mentoring, involvement in their work and introducing them to yours
  • Work with the Communications & Marketing team’s Director and strategic leads to identify ways to improve the Communications & Marketing offer and implement best practice across the team

Person specification

  • Strong digital experience and skills – and loves digital storytelling
  • Demonstrable understanding of the issues facing the higher education sector and a transformative organisation
  • ‘Client service’ approach, possibly learned in an agency environment, with the ability to deliver on time and to budget
  • A self-starter, with strong people development skills
  • Experience of budget management and forecasting
  • Strong analytical skills, with respect to effective, measurable communications
  • Excellent drafting (traditional and social media) and presentation skills
  • Team player
