We are seeking a new Media Manager to join our team at STFC, Polaris House, Swindon who will be responsible within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) for promoting STFC facilities, grant funded-research programmes and international partnerships. If you’re passionate about media and communication this could be the next role for you.
About the role
As Media Manager you will manage the work and development of the media officer and collaborate with the press officers in a variety of our locations and across UKRI when required ensuring that we keep a broad awareness of evolving news across all STFC sites and programmes. Not only this but you will provide specialist support, guidance leadership and professional development and mentoring to the wider STFC communications team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Manage the implementation of media elements of the communications strategy through the planning of long-term activities, end to end media campaigns and daily decision making on potential stories to deliver
- Research and write content for press releases, articles, briefing paper, publications and other material allocating resources as required
- Sub editing and quality control of all press releases, briefing papers, and other content generated
- Lead and project manage press conferences, journalist briefings and media field trips to STFC facilities and international locations.
About you
It is essential that you have full membership of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) or a similar organisation. You will also be able to demonstrate experience in managing a busy press office or equivalent news team, preferably in a science environment. Experience in developing creative ways to generate media opportunities, as well as have experience in generating and disseminating stories on science commercialisation and innovation.
You will also have a good understanding of the current political environment and how it impacts the public sector communications. You will also show a flexible approach and be willing to travel nationally and internationally when required.
