Are you a skilled communicator experienced in media relations and able to produce excellent written copy, whether writing a press release, bringing to life a complex case study or drafting an article for a residents’ magazine?

Croydon is an ambitious London borough. The council is leading the way in ensuring that people and businesses in the area flourish and recently established one of the first Violence Reduction Networks (VRN) in London, taking a preventative public health approach to crime.

Croydon Council is looking for an experienced senior media and communications officer to join its award-winning communications team and lead on the publicity of the work of the VRN and the Safer Croydon Partnership (SCP).

Working closely with the VRN’s director and managers, the SCP board and external partners including the police, you will be responsible for all communications publicising the work and initiatives undertaken to tackle crime and its underlying causes in Croydon.

Leading on both proactive and reactive communications, you’ll be confident advising senior leaders, drafting communication strategies and capable of representing the council at joint working groups.

Designing and leading creative media and communications campaigns to promote the SCP’s and VRN’s strategic objectives and corporate aims, you’ll have strong political acumen and be able to regularly contribute to all of the council’s internal and external communication channels, producing appropriate content across a wide range of platforms including social media. Photography, video and editing skills are also desirable.

You should ideally possess a media, communications or marketing qualification and a good working knowledge of local government.

In return you will be joining a proactive, professional, supportive team, with induction, training and development opportunities.

Croydon Council provides excellent benefits for its staff, including a brilliant Local Government Pension Scheme, work flexibility, generous leave entitlement and numerous staff discounts.
