Are you a skilled media relations professional? Do you have a flair for creating engaging media materials in a variety of styles – from punchy social media copy to eye-catching video content; news stories for national and local media; features for our residents’ magazine, and developing campaign plans with far-reaching impact?

Do you have excellent written English, an eye for detail, a wide range of contacts and the ability to work to tight deadlines? And are you passionate about helping to make places great to live, work and play in?

If you answered yes to these questions, we may have the role you’ve been looking for.

Croydon is an ambitious London borough with a £5.2bn regeneration under way. As a media relations officer, you will play a key role in developing and communicating the council’s messages to the council’s many and diverse stakeholders.

You will help plan, deliver and monitor media strategies across broadcast, print, digital and social media, raising the council’s profile and ensuring that our reputation is protected and enhanced in the public arena.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and self-motivated, with a proven track record in delivering effective media plans. You’ll also be confident engaging with our residents and partners, whether that’s face-to-face, on the phone or through our social media channels.

As well as being enthusiastic and a team player, you will be a strong communicator skilled in dealing with a diverse range of people including journalists, senior officers, councillors and key contacts. You will be able to demonstrate previous good working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

You’ll be creative and will enjoy coming up with new ways to best use the full range of communications channels available, including social media, to reach your target audience. Photography, video and editing skills are also desirable.

You should ideally possess a media, communications or marketing qualification and a good working knowledge of local government.

In return you will be joining a proactive, professional, supportive team, with induction, training and development opportunities.

Croydon Council provide excellent benefits for its staff, including a brilliant Local Government Pension Scheme, work flexibility, generous leave entitlement and numerous staff discounts.

Hours - 36 hours per week
Closing date 3rd January 2020, (11.59pm)
