Job Details

Join FCO Services, and you’ll find an organisation that works every day to protect the UK’s interests, both at home and overseas. How? We are part of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and provide secure services that support UK and friendly foreign government bodies, from construction to logistics to IT services. At any given moment, we could be building a new embassy in Asia, designing CCTV for a government site in the Americas, or rolling out secure WiFi to European government buildings.

It’s complex work with an exceptional impact. But at the same time, with secure projects often taking place behind the scenes, the communication challenges are broad. How do we make sure that the right messages reach all the right people, from customers to senior leaders, our employees and key stakeholders? It’s all about strategy; working together as a team to present our strengths and our services. And that’s where you’ll come in, as our new Head of Communications.

Bring expertise to an extraordinary brand

The scope of our work is unusual, but you won’t be fazed. You’re a pro-active, experienced Head of Communications; someone with real experience in driving a complex brand like ours. You’ll come in with a sharp eye for what we need: which channels are working; which aren’t; how to develop and protect our brand; where there are gaps in our communications strategy. And if experience tells you that we need to go back to the drawing board on something, you’ll feel confident in saying so. This is a place to make your mark, and you’ll rise to that.

Create effective, coherent strategy that engages everyone

You know the change you want to make, and you’re ready to go after it wholeheartedly. You’re the kind of person who can put together a coherent, consistent strategy, drive it forward with confidence, and get everyone else onboard in the process. Whether it’s reporting back regularly to our CEO; talking to senior government leaders; or bringing together teams across Marketing, Internal Comms, and PR; you’re a natural at engaging and inspiring people at all levels. You rally everyone around one shared purpose, educate across the business, and help everyone understand what you want to achieve.

Encourage collaboration that enables better communication

You’ll help colleagues collaborate more effectively across FCO Services. You’ll ensure manageable workloads, foster an environment of shared expertise and make sure our teams can reach out to one another to share goals and business needs. Ultimately, you’ll nurture everyone’s development and their ability to deliver.

In return, we’ll support you, offering not just brilliant impact and challenge, but excellent benefits, including an OFSTED-registered nursery and a Civil Service pension. And of course, there’s the pride that comes in ensuring the success of an organisation that protects people, assets and information worldwide. In short? It’s your job, bigger.
