Permanent Full-Time Position
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a media savvy individual to be the first to take on a new role in the communications team at Essex Police as a Senior Media Officer.
To support a growing Police force, the new position of Senior Media Officer has been created to support both the reactive and proactive work of the Press Office.
We are looking for someone with at least 2 years’ experience in a press or PR role who can adapt to the changing nature of policing and produce content for a variety of different audiences.
This role will require you to develop professional relationships with journalists and manage media enquiries on a local, regional and national basis in a supporting function to a team of Press & PR Officers as well as gather proactive content to promote the work of the force.
You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as a good understanding of policing and a nose for a good story as well as be able to identify opportunities to demonstrate the work of the force to the public.
Experience of people management is desirable as the person in this role will have line management responsibility for a Media Delivery Officer.
You will work closely in support of the Senior Press & PR Officer and Press Office Manager, the web and social media team and the wider Corporate Communications Team.
Some out of hours, weekend and Bank Holiday working may be required.
What we are looking for:
At shortlisting we will be looking for the essential evidence of:
- Recognised qualification in journalism, PR or marketing, or relevant journalistic or media relations experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- At least 2 years’ experience in a press or PR role.
In addition, it would be desirable if you could evidence:
- Working knowledge of media law.
- Line management experience
The role is being advertised on a permanent basis.
