With increasing and accelerating changes to the world in which we operate, it is vital that the CMA’s work in promoting competition for the benefit of consumers is understood. This pivotal leadership role offers the opportunity for an exceptional communications professional to lead the Competition and Markets Authority’s external communications activity and act as the driving force in effectively delivering and enhancing the CMA’s external reputation.

The Communications team plays a central, strategic role in increasing the impact of the CMA's work through behaviour change and reputation management. As the Director of Communications, you will lead the CMA’s external communications activity, overseeing the News and Digital teams and leading its campaigning activity. You will provide your expertise and advice to senior colleagues on integrated communication strategies and oversee campaigns to promote awareness of, and increase business compliance with, competition and consumer law. A key element of this role is developing relationships internally and externally to ensure CMA’s work and its role as the UK's primary competition and consumer authority, making markets work well in the interests of consumers, businesses, and the economy, is more clearly understood. This will include building appropriate networks with the media in order to achieve and influence outcomes.

This role requires an inspiring and motivational leader with a strong track record of developing people and supporting diversity and inclusion. Excellent, high-level communication, collaboration and engagement skills are essential as is a proven track record in developing a clear and engaging strategic vision with key stakeholders within a similar or equivalent environment. Knowledge and understanding of competition and consumer law approaches, and of the political, economic and legal framework within which the CMA operates would be advantageous.

In return, the CMA is a hugely rewarding and stimulating place to work – an opportunity to work for the public good and to stretch and develop yourself in doing so. We offer generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, at least 25 days leave (increasing to 30 over five years), and generous maternity/paternity leave provision. You can also take advantage of interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme, our employee well-being programme and favourable consideration of flexible working.
