Senior Media Engagement Manager

Employer
RNLI
Location
Poole, Dorset
Salary
£53,426 to £62,854 (dependent on experience)
Closing date
1 Nov 2020

The RNLI has been saving lives at sea for nearly 200 years – it’s an incredible story and it’s yours to tell. Whether it’s highlighting our rescue work or encouraging supporters to raise funds, you’ll be setting the external communications agenda to support the RNLI’s lifesaving objectives.

You’ll be leading a team of around 30 communications professionals across a broad spectrum of disciplines – from regional media relations to the national press office, PR campaigns, social media and case study management. You’ll be responsible for the training and development of over 300+ volunteer press officers – ensuring they have the tools and confidence to represent their local lifeboat station and the RNLI. And you’ll be advising teams across the organisation on how best to promote and protect the RNLI’s reputation – from the Trustees, Chief Executive and Executive team, to regional operations managers and front-line volunteers.

We’re looking for a proactive and inspiring leader who has a track record of leading large, high performing communications teams in the charity, commercial or emergency services sector, ideally including crisis communications, PR and social media.

You should have experience of proactively using communications to deliver key strategic objectives, successfully managing risk, overseeing organisational crisis communications response and managing a large number of communications projects across multiple teams. Stakeholder management is key and you must be adept at establishing professional working relationships with senior leaders, operational staff and volunteers as well as national media and influencers.

The RNLI is a 24/7 emergency service and you will be expected to take part in an out-of-hours duty manager rota and may be called on out of office hours to provide senior advice and support during major incidents, issues or crises.

Your reward will be working with a brilliant team and for an amazing charity where no two days are the same, but the goal is always to save lives at sea.

There is some flexibility over location, but there will be a requirement to be in Poole two to three days per week. This post requires a valid driving licence.
