In unprecedented times, Oxford University is attracting unprecedented media interest. Always in the news, the world’s number one ranked university is now at the centre of record national and international attention for its response to the COVID pandemic. Continuing to deliver outstanding teaching and research has a required a large-scale, co-ordinated effort across the University, and requires an equally sophisticated communications approach.

The University’s Public Affairs Directorate is now seeking an outstanding, highly-experienced communications professional who can take a strategic lead on Oxford’s institutional response to COVID. We are looking for someone who can secure intelligent, global media coverage for the University’s strategy as the pandemic unfolds. They will plan and deliver communication campaigns for the COVID strategy, including co-ordination of media, social media and internal announcements. Oxford also continues its operations as one of the world’s leading universities, with a regular flow of major institutional developments to further our academic mission. The postholder will be expected to lead on media strategy on these projects, securing wide-ranging coverage and understanding of the University’s priorities.

This is a post for a professional who has operated in a demanding national or international media environment for some years. They will be expected to have superb writing skills, impeccable judgement, a persuasive manner, swift and acute understanding of political sensitivities, an organised approach and great anticipatory awareness. They will be expected to add significant senior support and capability to the University’s Director of Public Affairs and will be relied on by the University’s senior team for sound advice on the most pressing reputational matters.
