Mencap are recruiting for a Head of Media to work on a job share basis, part time (22.5 hrs per week) over 3 days per week, on a 13 month fixed term contract, covering maternity leave.

The current post holder will be going on maternity leave at the end of March 2021, we are flexible with the start date for the successful candidate.
The role will be based at our Centre of Engagement, but will be home based in the interim, until we can return to our offices safely.
We are looking for someone with considerable experience of leading a national media and PR function, ideally within a charity organisation, although this is not essential. You will be adept at managing high profile media relations campaigns as well as leading and advising on reputational and crisis communications issues at a senior level. The ideal candidate will also be a talented team leader, capable of inspiring, working collaboratively across multiple functions, developing and effectively managing a small and passionate team of media relations professionals.
As Head of Media, you will operate within our external communications department. Working alongside your job share partner, you will be developing and implementing an ambitious, creative and impactful media strategy in line with Mencap’s ‘Big Plan’, detailing how the organisation can harness the power of the media to improve the lives of people with a learning disability.
Navigating issues across healthcare, social care, education and employment, you will be creating diverse and impactful opportunities for sharing Mencap’s expert voice. Leading the media team, you will identify opportunities to generate visibility of people with learning disability in the media and work closely with senior colleagues to establish the media team as a key function for influence and brand awareness.
