Your expert communications will help us to protect society

The challenge
Fast-evolving and unique, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) delivers world class regulation across the UK nuclear industry to protect workers and the public. As our Deputy Head of Communications, you’ll be pivotal to that. You’ll have the unique chance to enhance our reputation, share key messages and manage important campaigns and engagements.

The role
With your impressive expertise, you’ll take the operational lead for our communication services. In this complex, challenging and rewarding role, you’ll work alongside the Head of Communications to manage a large team and deliver key strategic campaigns. Your main priorities will be to deliver our ambitious internal engagement strategy and to build stakeholder confidence externally. With a collaborative ethos, you’ll also help to manage our communications programme, ensuring it matches up with different directorate’s activities. By working with other teams, you’ll also confidently manage our products and support the development of digital channels. Importantly, you’ll inspire a culture of best practice, all while driving efficiencies.

The person
An experienced communicator, you’ll have a degree in communications, journalism or a related discipline (or equivalent experience). You’ll also have a background in planning and developing creative communication strategies, and you’ll understand how digital trends can support ONR. Your experience of engaging with a range of stakeholders means you’re confident working with different teams, giving advice and collaborating with other organisations and bodies. This will all be backed up by your knowledge of staff engagement technique, effective stakeholder engagement and working with the media. And calm under pressure, you’ll juggle competing priorities and manage reactive work effectively.

The rewards
As part of the ONR, you’ll enjoy a generous rewards package and opportunities to progress. In addition to a possible relocation package, we offer a competitive salary of £53,012 - £61,307. You’ll also be eligible for a Civil Service Pension with five weeks’ annual leave, rising by an extra day for every year worked (up to a maximum of six weeks).
