Our client is an international conservation charity. Their vision is a world where wildlife thrives and they are working every day to achieve this. From investigating the health threats facing animals, to helping people and wildlife live alongside each other, they are committed to bringing wildlife back from the brink of extinction. Through the work of their pioneering scientists, their dedicated conservationists and their unrivalled animal experts in their two zoos, their purpose is to inspire, inform and empower people to stop wild animals going extinct.

Role Profile
This Global wildlife conservation charity is looking for a new press officer to join their busy in-house media team to lead on media outreach for the Science, Conservation and Policy work of the world-renowned organisation.

In line with their dynamic new strategy, the individual in this role will seek to raise the awareness of the conservation and science work through sustained media coverage of the organisations and help them to influence policymakers through targeted news reports.

The press officer will report into the Media Manager, and work with the wider communications, science and conservation and policy teams at the charity, to deliver positive, inspiring and impactful news coverage to raise the profile of the organisation to key audiences.

They run two zoos, carry out ground-breaking research for wildlife in the Institute of Zoology and puts this research into action in conservation projects around the world. This global work is impossible without support from international conservation partners, collaborators and funders and these stakeholders should be factored into all communication plans.

Working with Director of Conservation and Policy, the Director of Science, and the Head of Policy, this individual will seek out news stories from across the charity, to ensure they maintain a high public profile, and its work to influence policy is recognised and understood by all stakeholders.

The press officer must be a self-starter with a sharp nose for news, a keen eye for detail, able to respond quickly to reactive opportunities and have a thorough understanding of the needs and workings of national, local and online media.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in conservation, a thorough understanding of the scientific peer-preview process, and experience in producing science-based communication for broad audiences.

A full-time position that is in normal times based primarily in London's Regent’s Park, the role will require occasional travel to manage media interest in the organisation's UK-based field work, as well as their field conservation sites, sister-site in Bedfordshire, and occasional evening and weekend work.

The press officer will take part in a duty-rota for covering out of hours press queries related to the full breadth of the organisation's work, and be expected to take an active role in delivering their wider communications objectives.
