Penguin Random House UK, the world’s leading consumer book publisher, is hiring an exciting new communications role to help us grow the reach of our iconic brand among all types of readers.
With books enjoying a renaissance and more people reading than ever before, we’re looking for a Senior Consumer Communications Executive to help us harness this momentum and reach new and different audiences. This role will use PR to amplify brand campaigns, drive traffic to our platforms, and shine a spotlight on the impact of publishing and books in the wider world.
You’ll report to the Director of Communications and will be an integral member of our small but effective team. You will work alongside our brand and social impact teams on coordinated PR activity in consumer-focused, national and local outlets. You’ll ensure that we are plugged into relevant stories in the media on creative industries. And you’ll work with our website and social teams, using PR to drive traffic to our fast-growing website, which includes author interviews, essays and topical book recommendations.
You’ll also be integral to the day-to-day running of our team; providing communications support and expertise to colleagues and teams across the business.
This will include: acting as a press office and managing enquiries; drafting press releases and managing the media outreach for company announcements; developing awards entries; social media and website copywriting; maintaining our News section; and conducting daily media monitoring and analysis.
You do not need experience in publishing or creative industries, but you will need experience in external-facing communications, and knowledge of the consumer and wider national media. You’ll need experience of engaging with and pitching to journalists. You will be an excellent communicator, who can write and edit a range of compelling copy. You will also be a creative thinker, and will thrive in a fast-paced but exciting, fun and supportive environment.
Please note, you will not be creating campaigns to promote individual books or authors. You’ll be in our central communications team and focus on amplifying the Penguin brand and our brand-led campaigns.
We are currently working remotely and expect this role to transition back into our London offices when we are able. We will be conducting interviews over video call.
Please apply with a CV and cover letter by 5th April.
