The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is a major government department at the heart of the justice system. We deliver some of the most fundamental public services including courts, tribunals, prisons, legal services, youth justice, probation services, and attendance centres.

The Communications team within MoJ offers an integral service to the department, covering everything from press and marketing campaigns, digital and social media with a major focus now on responding to the Covid crisis and work to support recovery across all the justice system.

We are seeking an exceptional, experienced and outcome focused Director of Communications to lead one of the busiest communications directorates in Whitehall. The Group Director of Communications is a senior leadership role with the MoJ Group, advising Ministers, our Executive Committee and senior leaders across the organisations on all aspects of internal and external communications whilst also holding a senior role in the wider Government Communication Service. You will have cross-systems leadership responsibilities, leading teams that deliver across the core department and several of our major operational agencies and arms’ length bodies.

With experience and a proven track record in high profile arenas, you will be able to lead and drive effective low-cost, no-cost and digital campaign delivery, public and media relations activity, stakeholder engagement, internal communications, operational communications and marketing activity linked to agreed priority areas.

We are looking for an exceptional communications expert and strategic thinker to provide leadership across the Department, Whitehall, and beyond, and play a crucial role in the Department’s top team. Collaboration is at the heart of how we work and you will need to be resourceful, resilient and pragmatic, adept at influencing, and socially and culturally aware.
