Salary

The work of the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has never been more relevant. As an independent regulator, we uphold information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals. In the last year we have been involved in important issues ranging from intrusive technology to the privacy implications of managing the Covid-19 pandemic.

Our work is interesting and immensely rewarding and our Corporate Communications department plays a key role in our success – developing communications strategies, plans and activities to support the ICO’s ambitions and objectives. To further grow our service, we are seeking three Communications Business Partners (CBPs) to join our flexible and well-networked team.

About the role

The ICO holds a unique position as a regulator across the whole of the private, public and third sectors. We regulate the UK’s data protection and freedom of information laws, support and enable digital innovation, provide direct advice to the public and are at the forefront of information rights policy development. Our international team is responsible for engaging with data protection and information regulators all over the world.

CBPs serve as the strategic communications lead for our services, ensuring effective collaboration and coordination between Corporate Communications and the wider organisation.

CBPs provide high-quality communications advice, challenge and support to our Executive Team, Directors and senior managers, across all communications disciplines – ensuring that the most effective communication strategies and approaches are deployed. They lead the development of integrated communication plans and the overarching communications strategy for their service areas, working with senior stakeholders to ensure our communications add value and impact to the delivery of objectives.

About you

You will have a strong record in a senior communications role, including management experience, and a sound working knowledge of communications disciplines and methodologies – from writing strategies, planning and research through to delivery and evaluation. You’ll have excellent interpersonal and hands-on communications skills, drawing on your personal effectiveness and project management experience to deliver high-quality results. A proven ability to organise, prioritise and delegate effectively is crucial – as is the ability to create clear communications, including copy, relevant to our audiences.

The ICO’s headquarters are in Wilmslow (Cheshire). However, we may be able to offer some flexibility of location.  The majority of our staff are currently working remotely in line with Government guidelines.

Further details of the role, responsibilities and person specification are set out in the attached copy of the Job Description and Person Specification.

How to apply

Please complete our online application form and submit prior to the closing date of: 23:59, 14 May 2021.

Interviews are expected to be held via Microsoft Teams the week commencing 31 May 2021.
