My client is a large, leading charity, that provides emotional, practical and financial support for people in the retail, FMCG and food & drink sector.  It has a legacy for the work and events they produce, leading to approx. £10m in fundraising a year.  Financial support has risen by approx. 80% due to the pandemic and this charity has been a key factor ensuring brands hold their space and in turn, retailers survive!

They are currently looking for a Marketing & Communications Executive to join their busy marcomms team!

Main Purpose of Role:

As a member of the Marketing & Communications team you will play a key role in delivering end to end communications activity to their industry of 3.5 million people. Building relationships with volunteers, supporters and communication experts in top brand manufacturers, retailers, independents and wholesale you will drive awareness, enhance the charities’ reputation and most importantly, support thousands of people within this sector who find themselves in difficulties.

Main Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Support in the creation of content for digital and offline marketing channels.
  • Support the fundraising team with event marketing for 10+ industry leading events.
  • Support the team on major charity projects including films, websites, awards and publications.
  • Act as a central point of contact for the charity, working with supporters, trade press and third-party agencies. 

Role breakdown in detail:

Awareness initiatives 

  • Help the team to plan, manage and deliver the charity’ annual awareness day event. 
  • Work on awareness campaigns and initiatives. 
  • Moderate the social community and track online supporter activity.
  • Develop relationships with the industry trade press, providing concise and relevant articles/adverts for their audiences. 

Content creation

  • Research, create and publish relevant/engaging content including press releases, blog posts and mailings. 
  • Support the social media strategy by helping to create content for 10 channels. 
  • Support with website updates and ongoing SEO improvements.
  • Help to create promotional material toolkits that can be used to raise awareness of the charity’ services. 
  • Keep the meeting toolkit up to date monthly with changes to the Creds Deck, event calendars and ad hoc requests. 
  • Help to coordinate projects with timelines, identifying key milestones, managing diaries and stakeholder delivery. 
  • Collate monthly analytics to show trends and insights, with the ability to make recommendations on future marketing activity.
  • Record supporter activity in the charity’ CRM database, create reports and track progress. 

Communications support

  • Support colleagues as required across all marketing and communications activity. 
  • Support the Fundraising team in the marketing of events including; website, social media mailings, press releases and on-site activity.
  • Support the Welfare team with new initiatives, funds and ongoing Case Studies. 
  • Liaise with agencies, designers, printers and other third parties. 
  • Attend team meetings and SLT meetings and help towards the communications strategy.

As the charity’ Marketing & Communications Executive you will immerse yourself in the industry by attending events, reading the trade press and following brands on social to improve commercial knowledge of the industry and better understand our supporter base.   You will therefore ideally have some sort of FMCG, food & drink and/or retail experience though not essential.  You may come from an agency, or in-house brand. This is a fast-paced role so passion and organisational skills a must!

Experience/Skills:

Educated to degree-level or equivalent IDM/CIM marketing qualification

  • 1-2 years communications/marketing experience 
  • Good copywriting skills
  • Excellent attention to detail 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment 
  • Effective communicator with the ability to connect with a range of audiences including beneficiaries and senior members of the industry
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at any given time 
  • Knowledge of Mailchimp, Wordpress, Hootsuite and Social Media channels advantageous 
  • Good Excel & PowerPoint skills. Knowledge databases an advantage

This role is to be based 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.  The offices are based in Berkshire, commutable from London!  Please get in touch for an immediate interview!
