Job Details

Management Today is the UK’s most famous business magazine and one of its most iconic B2B brands. More than 50 years ago, it pioneered intelligent journalistic analysis of the country’s business leaders, executed with a sense of flair rivals could only dream of. Today, it is a dynamic multi-channel brand spanning print, digital content and live events, but still asking difficult questions about leadership and still dedicated to the finest long-form journalism and design values.

We are looking for an editor to drive the brand as it continues to broaden its horizons, with exciting plans for new products and ventures. Being editor of Management Today is no ordinary role – it involves overseeing a print magazine with high creative standards, being able to hobnob with business leaders and steer round table discussions, as well as having a keen view on how to build a brand that shines in the digital realm. All of which means we are not looking for an ordinary editor: you will be ambitious, intelligent, focused and confident in your abilities, and crucially able to devise and articulate a vision for the brand that is exciting, modern and relevant to our audience.

Main responsibilities

  • Devising and executing strategy for development of the Management Today brand
  • Creative control of the Management Today print magazine, including responsibility for commissioning, flatplans, creative ideas and quality control
  • Oversight of Management Today digital channels and responsibility for positive growth in audience numbers
  • Management and development of the team, including responsibility for recruitment
  • Building a contacts book that will ensure MT is the first choice for business leaders to be profiled and interviewed
  • Representing the brand at conferences and events, including chairing panels as required
  • Being prepared to write across all channels as required

Key attributes

  • A proven track record as a B2B journalist and experience in both print and digital media
  • An excellent cuttings file and demonstrable awareness of (and opinions on) key business issues
  • The ability to cultivate contacts and represent a brand at events
  • Experience as an editor or in a senior editorial role in a comparable environment

Other benefits include

  • Competitive salary
  • Comprehensive training and career development programme
  • 25 days holiday per year (increasing 1 day per year of service up to 30 days)
  • Generous contributory pension scheme
  • Season ticket loan on passing probationary period
  • Flexible benefits scheme to suit your lifestyle
