Director of Communications & Marketing

Location: London

Salary: Competitive

The Royal College of Art is an internationally renowned postgraduate art and design institution. Founded in 1837, it is also the world’s oldest art and design university in continuous operation and the most research intensive. The RCA has been ranked by the highly regarded QS survey, as the number one art and design university in the world for the seven consecutive years in which the survey has been conducted between 2015 and 2021.   Among its core audiences – students, artists, and designers – the RCA brand is legendary. Alumni include filmmaker Sir Ridley Scott, designer Sir James Dyson, artists Tracey Emin and David Hockney, fashion designer Erdem and textile designer Orla Kiely.

The RCA’s continued success and innovation is impressive. Currently developing a new strategy from 2022, the RCA continues to design a future for influencing global culture as well as engaging more local communities. The expansion of the RCA’s Battersea campus and the refurbishment of the Darwin Building on Kensington Gore are important elements as part of the RCA’s evolution into a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) focused university.

The College is looking for an outstanding individual to become its Director of Communications & Marketing. This role is integral to building engagement with stakeholders; reinforcing a global position among future students and other key audiences; and enhancing the overall reputation of the RCA.  A member of the College’s senior management team, and reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the new director will develop and implement a robust strategy to support the vision and strategic plan.

The successful candidate will have experience of leading world-class communications, understand the role that digital plays in all types of engagement, and will be an expert advocate with the media, government, and other stakeholders. Passionate about the work of the RCA, they will be highly motivated and will thrive in a context of creativity and innovation.

The RCA is committed to celebrating diversity, eliminating discrimination, and promoting equality of opportunity. We welcome and strongly encourage individuals of all backgrounds to apply for this role.
