The opportunity

Are you an experienced Media officer? Do you have strong PR skills as well as knowledge of current fundraising landscape?

If so, you could be the PR Officer we are looking for!

About the role

As our PR Officer for Fundraising, you’ll work across key Fundraising PR projects and will help to create and deliver external communications that inspire people to support the charity in these areas.

You’ll help deliver campaigns that will emotionally and creatively communicate the need for people to shop, donate, volunteer or sign up for BHF events and challenges – all of which will help fund lifesaving research.

Working closely with the Senior Media Officer and Media Manager you'll deliver engaging and innovative national campaigns including BHF's Heart Hero Awards, Heart Month, and the BHF's running and cycling events.

About you

Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, you’ll be talented at finding creative ways to tell stories and bringing these to life using case studies and statistics.

With a solid understanding of current fundraising issues you’ll have experience in working on a variety of campaigns. You'll be a self-starter with the ability to grow strong relationships with colleagues across the fundraising directorate quickly. You’ll understand the power of PR and have first-hand experience of placing a variety of stories in national, consumer and broadcast press.

As an enthusiastic media professional, you’ll also have superb interpersonal and management skills coupled with strong press office experience. With previous experience of working in a media or communications environment you’ll be able to write fluently and persuasively for a range of audiences.

You'll have excellent time management skills able to juggle a variety of tasks whilst working under pressure to deliver a first class service.

Please note this 9 month fixed term contract.

Our Activities

As the nation's heart charity, the British Heart Foundation focuses on three vital things:

Investing in pioneering research
We fund around 1,200 research projects investigating every aspect of heart disease - from causes and safer drugs to improving surgical techniques.

Supporting and caring for heart patients
We fund BHF Nurses who visit heart patients with all types of heart conditions in their homes. We provide defibrillators and echocardiograph machines for hospitals, emergency services and first-aiders.

Providing vital information to help people reduce their own risk of dying prematurely from a heart or circulatory related illness
We produce publications, videos and other materials for health professionals and the public including children. We inform people about how to improve the health of their heart through public information campaigns, advertising and the media.

Some vital facts and figures

There are over 400 BHF Heart Nurses caring for patients across the UK.

Over 1,620 Heartstart UK schemes teach people what to do in an emergency. More than 1.6 million people have been trained by Heartstart UK in schools and the community.

The BHF invests over £137 a minute on research to keep the nation's hearts healthy.
