The leading medical education provider MIMS Learning is expanding its operations and seeking exceptional candidates to join us in two new posts as medical editors.

As a medical editor for MIMS Learning, your main role will be to commission, edit and create clinical education content to meet the learning needs of healthcare professionals across all media. You will lead our content development in a number of key medical specialties and a particular focus will be the creation of new learning content for hospital specialists. An important measure of your success will be the levels of engagement from the target audiences with the content you create.

Specific responsibilities

To be responsible for the commissioning, editing and delivery of high quality clinical education content for the MIMS Learning brand, leading our coverage for key clinical  specialties and developing thriving professional communities in those areas. To include:

Strategy

  • Lead the development of thriving multidisciplinary communities in a number of medical specialties, based on the content you create.
  • Focus your commissioning of medical education content to fit the needs and interests of the target healthcare audiences.
  • Work effectively with the healthcare professionals appointed as Clinical Leads in the specialties you manage, to develop highly relevant content for those audiences.
  • Understand the CPD and revalidation systems for the target audiences.
  • Keep up to date with developments in research, clinical practice and the working lives of your specialist audiences.
  • Work to meet and surpass the goals and performance targets as set by your manager.
  • Work to produce content in the most effective, efficient manner, to deadline.
  • Commission content in a way that it can easily be transferred between different media platforms, for example between live and digital.
  • Ensure the best possible presentation of content in all formats.
  • Build strong relationships with other individuals and departments essential to your success.
  • Ensure your knowledge and skills in digital and live content delivery are developed and maintained to a high standard.
  • Monitor rivals and adjust your coverage/performance to compete.
  • Ensure your organisational systems are easily understood and managed in your absence.

Key tasks

The quality and presentation of editorial content is key to our success attracting and retaining our target audiences and your main task is to deliver content that achieves those goals and sets us apart as the market leader in the field.

General approach

As a senior member of the medical content team you are expected to set high standards in every aspect of your work, presenting a strong example to all staff and in representing the brand to those outside.

Day to day

  • Commission, edit and deliver high quality clinical education content to deadline in a range of formats.
  • Manage your clinical communities through regular interaction by the delivery of new and updated content, email bulletins, social media and other points of contact.
  • Commission and present video and audio content, for example webinars and podcasts, confidently and effectively (training will be provided).
  • Edit copy to ensure the accuracy, style and legality of all editorial content.
  • Select images to enhance the educational experience of the audience.
  • Commission art editors to produce figures/tables as required to optimise content.
  • Obtain the necessary rights for all content and administer payments to contributors.
  • Develop and manage a broad range of GP, nurse and specialist contributors.
  • Work effectively in the CMS of websites and digital products when required.
  • Work on different products, whether print, digital or live, both sponsored and independent, around the medical group as required.
  • Generate new ideas for content and potential commercial opportunities.
  • Set a high standard in terms of general behaviour, appearance and professionalism
  • Work as part of the MIMS Learning team, keeping tabs on what is happening in other specialties and keeping others informed of your own work.
  • Commission, manage and direct the work of any freelance staff required in connection with your role.
