The challenge
Fast-evolving, unique and increasingly in the public eye, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) offers the chance to join us at an exciting time in our development. As a Communications Manager, you’ll play a key role in helping us tell our story and ensure confidence in the vital work we do. In return, we’ll give you every opportunity to build your skills and career. At ONR, we recognise that our prime asset is our people. We strive to support our team so everyone can make the most of their expertise.

The role
With a proactive and strategic mind, you’ll deliver effective communications that’ll have a positive impact on stakeholders. As part of this, you’ll manage our social media channels; monitor and improve digital communications activity; develop news stories, briefings and campaign materials, digital content – while providing expert advice to senior managers and inspectors. You’ll need to be aware of the media and political environment, so you can spot reputational risks and opportunities. Proactive and forward thinking, you’ll be able to work with colleagues to ensure our vital regulation of industry understood by stakeholders and supported through effective communications campaigns and plans.

The person
An experienced communicator, you’ll have a background working in a busy team delivering communications activities and managing multiple projects and deadlines. You’ll be conscious of the media landscape and politically aware. You’ll also be keen and confident at building relationships with internal and external stakeholders, always positively representing the team. You will ideally have relevant experience in the public sector and be keen to move on into your next role. You’ll need a sound knowledge of digital communications, media, stakeholder engagement techniques and particularly social media. Your copywriting skills need to be at an advanced level as you will be responsible for developing content for various channels and audiences. We’re looking for an excellent team player who is capable of working with limited supervision. A relevant qualification (CIPR, NCTJ or similar) is desirable.

The rewards
As part of the ONR, you’ll enjoy a generous rewards package and opportunities to progress. In addition to a possible relocation package, we offer a competitive salary of £30,865 - £35,842. Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for a Civil Service Pension with five weeks’ annual leave, rising by an extra day for every year worked (up to a maximum of six weeks).
