Director of Communications and External Affairs

The Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) was launched in June 2021 with a mission to defend UK economic interests against unfair international trade practices. We’re a non-departmental public body that carries out trade remedies investigations and makes independent recommendations to Government. You’ll join us at a critical stage in our development — as Director for Communications and External Affairs, you’ll play a leading role in helping us become well-known, understood and respected both domestically and internationally.

We aspire to be valued as an essential and effective part of the UK’s new trade policy architecture. The trade remedy options available to businesses facing unfair trade practices, such as dumping of goods, are not yet well understood and we want to be in a position to help all businesses in need of our services.

Building strong relationships will be a crucial aspect of the role. Your role will be heavily outward facing. You will work closely with the UK Government, in particular the Department for International Trade, and the Devolved Administrations. You will also need the clout and influence to engage personally at senior levels with the business community, affected stakeholders and the media.

This is an important leadership role within the TRA. You will be a member of the Executive Committee, reporting to the Chief Executive. You will be interacting regularly with the TRA Board. And as well as leading the communications and external affairs function, you will  provide leadership across the TRA, helping the organisation to maximise its impact.

To apply, you’ll need a strong track record in strategic communications and stakeholder management, delivering successful communication strategies and advising on communications at board level. You’ll also identify with our values of Transparency, Expertise, Inclusion and Integrity, be excited by our mission and be keen to put a new organisation on the map.

When you join us, we’ll support your career ambitions with exceptional tools, training and coaching. As a Public Servant, you’ll be entitled to a wide range of benefits, including generous annual leave, flexible working, childcare and travel allowances, numerous staff networks and clubs, onsite facilities and a Civil Service pension.
