External Relations Manager (Wales) Part-Time

Wales (remote working with occasional UK travel and overseas visits required)

The ability to speak Welsh is essential for this role

About the Organisation

Our client is a unique and dynamic membership organisation which comprises 14 of the UK’s leading humanitarian charities. When large scale disasters hit countries without the capacity to respond, our client brings together their 14 member charities to raise funds quickly and efficiently. In these times of crisis, people in life-and-death situations need their help and their mission is to save, protect and rebuild lives through effective humanitarian response.

Pooling their resources to work as one, our client is pivotal in co-ordinating the UK public's response to overseas disasters. In collaboration with their Rapid Response Network of national media and corporate partners, they raise the alarm to the UK public and set up easy ways to donate, with the majority of their funds raised over an intensive two-week period following a disaster.

Since our client’s launch in 1963, they have run over 70 fundraising appeals and raised more than £1.7bn, saving countless lives and rebuilding communities.

They are now looking for a part-time External Relations Manager to join their team on a permanent basis working two and a half days per week.

The Benefits

- Salary of £35,000 - £38,000 per annum (pro rata)

- Great benefits package

- Support humanitarian efforts across the globe

This is an incredible opportunity to use your significant experience and expertise in cultivating partnerships with the media, corporates, and other stakeholders to build our client’s presence in Wales and grow support for their appeals.

Joining a small, efficient team, you will become part of a collaborative environment where you will have the chance to make an impact from day one and drive fundraising and engagement activities in this truly rewarding role.

The Role

As an External Relations Manager, you will focus on enhancing the profile, reputation and income of the organisation and appeals in Wales.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, you will build and maintain our client’s presence in Wales and help develop and deliver their communications and fundraising strategies, significantly enhancing their brand via everything you do.

Working closely with our client’s Fundraising Team, you will identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with potential and existing fundraising partners including institutional donors, trusts and foundations, corporate donors and high net worth individuals.

In addition, you will proactively seek out and develop relationships with existing and potential media partners, creating new opportunities to expand our client’s Rapid Response Network.

About You

To join our client as an External Relations Manager, you will need:

- Substantial experience of working in a similar role in Wales, cultivating partnerships with the media, corporate and other stakeholders

- Fluent in English and Welsh (written and oral)

- Strong experience in media relations, public relations or journalism, with knowledge of how to devise and implement communications work plans

- Proven experience of externally representing a charity or other organisation

- Proven success in delivering media campaigns and/or marketing campaigns

- Proven experience of working independently and proactively to produce results

- Project management skills including co-ordinating a diverse team

- First-class communications (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

- Educated to degree level, or able to demonstrate a similar level of ability from working experience

Experience of working in a charity communications, marketing or fundraising team would be beneficial to your application, as would experience of managing a small team.

This is a part-time role working 2.5 days per week. The post holder is required to work long hours during an appeal and may, on occasion, also be required to work additional hours in response to an emergency, to events held outside office hours or to extra workload. Where possible, notice of this will be given and TOIL (time off in lieu) is available.

Please note, this is a key role and the post holder’s name will be included on an emergency contact list for occasional urgent communications and leave may be cancelled accordingly.

Other organisations may call this role External Development Manager, External Engagement Manager, Partnerships Manager, Stakeholder Engagement Manager, or Media Relations Manager.
