About the CWGC and CWGF

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission honours and cares for the men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died in the First and Second World Wars, ensuring they will never be forgotten. Funded by six Member Governments, our work began with building, and now maintaining, cemeteries at 23,000 locations all over the world. Today, over a century after we first began, our work continues through our staff, supporters and volunteers who preserve our unique cultural, horticultural and architectural heritage and ensure that the stories of those who died are told.

The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation, (CWGF), is the charitable arm of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC). The CWGF highlights the work of the CWGC by engaging people, especially the young, raising funds to deliver a diverse range of projects, events and public engagement programmes which tell the inspiring stories of the men and women who died across the globe while fighting in the two world wars and by showcasing the history and work of the CWGC today.

About this Role and You

We are looking for a highly skilled and proficient Media Officer. Are you a creative and passionate media professional who can craft and develop new approaches to telling our story across multiple channels?

In this role you join our in-house media team and work closely with our Marketing, Communications and Digital teams creating effective PR strategies and campaigns that speak to the public, have measurable impact and raise the profile of the CWGC. You will support the development and delivery of tactical communications campaigns by pitching to journalists, handling press enquiries and assisting to deliver digital content.  You will use your experience and contacts to forge positive links with local, national and international media and PR agencies around the world.

This is a fast-paced role where no two days are the same; you may be writing press releases or compiling press briefings one day or organising and representing our Organisation at external events the next. Join our media team and see the impact of your work across the globe.

We are a global Organisation so you will be comfortable collaborating with diverse groups of people and be skilled at building networks and forging strong working relationships. You will have experience in a similar media and PR role and be accomplished at measuring and evaluating campaign success. Verbal articulation, together with a natural flair for creative writing and editing, combined with excellent time and project management skills will enable you to flourish in this role.

In addition, we are looking for applicants who share our Values of Respect, Excellence, Teamwork, Communication, Professionalism and Commitment.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for implementing external communications strategies that meet Organisational objectives, increasing brand awareness and raising our profile through sustained and positive media coverage.

Key Contacts

To successfully fulfil the responsibilities of this role you will need to liaise with member governments, local, national and international media and external PR agencies. Prior experience working or communicating with these groups will be beneficial.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • An ability to identify, craft and develop new and positive approaches to telling stories of our work and mission across multiple channels
  • You will be observant and watchful of situations and have a feel for seeing a story before it happens
  • An ability to pre-empt problems and respond to them in a proactive and analytical manner, with speed and sensitivity
  • A good understanding of digital and social media communications

What We Offer:

  • A generous holiday allocation, with 25 days annual leave, rising by 1 day per year up to a maximum of 30
  • Paid public holidays
  • Paid office closure between Christmas and New Year
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Generous Pension Scheme, with CWGC contributing up to 15%
  • Up to six times salary Life Assurance cover
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • We offer piece of mind for our employees travelling on business via International SOS
