The Sutton Trust is seeking a new Director of Communications and Public Affairs. This is a pivotal senior role at this ground-breaking organisation, communicating the impact of its vital work, influencing policy-makers, the media, and a wide range of stakeholders.
The Sutton Trust is the UK’s leading foundation dedicated to improving social mobility. Founded by Sir Peter Lampl in 1997, the Trust delivers programmes to 8,000 young people each year across the country, conducts rigorous research into the issues of low social mobility and educational disadvantage, and advocates policies to effect systemic change. The Trust seeks to ensure young people reach their potential, regardless of their background, school or where they live.
The Trust has an excellent profile in schools and universities, in the national media and in government, enabling it to catapult issues into mainstream public debate. The Trust commands national reach and has an excellent reputation with students and teachers in schools, colleges and universities across the country as well as in the US.
The role will have close contact with Sir Peter Lampl, the Trust’s Founder and Executive Chairman, as the principal spokesperson for the organisation. Reporting to the CEO James Turner, the post holder will be a member of the Sutton Trust’s senior leadership team and will work alongside the Director of Research and Policy.
You will have a strong commitment to educational equality and social mobility; a significant track record of leadership of professional strategic communications, including experience leading traditional and social media strategies, a clear understanding of how to use research data effectively to support communications and a track record in influencing or developing public policy. We seek a confident, positive and creative leader with the ability to motivate and inspire stakeholders, colleagues, staff and peers.
We are committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for all. We strongly encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply for this role.
