Senior Press Officer (North West Region)

Salary: £32,000 – 35,000 + Benefits
Contract Length: Permanent
Hours: 35, Full-time (4 days a week/Compressed Hours considered)

Closing date:  Friday 7th February 11:59

Location: Home-based with travel around the region (at least two days per week). Due to business need candidates need to live within the North West or within a commutable distance. A lot of the activity falls around Manchester, however candidates can live anywhere within the region. This role also requires candidates to have a driving licence.

 

Are you a highly motivated, creative and experienced media professional?

We are looking for an innovative individual with significant experience in media relations to join our dynamic, sector-leading team.

This role is also known as Senior Media Relations Officer or Senior Media Officer. You could come from a journalism background or have worked in-house  at a press office and come with either national or regional media experience.

What will I be doing?

Make an impact every day by:

  • Implementing regional media relations plans to support key and diverse campaigns.
  • Responding to media enquiries quickly – assessing and mitigating risks
  • Act as Cancer Research UK regional spokesperson – giving radio and TV interviews on agreed non-scientific subjects.
  • Sourcing, interviewing and nurturing cancer ‘media volunteers’ (case studies) and cultivating key organisational spokespeople in the region
  • Developing strong relationships with internal stakeholders– including fundraisers, scientists, nurses, statisticians and policy and public affairs colleagues.
  • Managing complex relationships with key stakeholders from partnership organisations in the region.

     

What skills are you looking for?

You’ll be able to bring to the role:

  • ·A background in journalism and/or comms
  • ·Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills.
  • ·Resilience with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve competing issues quickly, creatively and calmly.
  • ·Experience in dealing with complex sensitive situations with empathy, particularly relating to health.
  • ·Strong IT skills. Ability to use smartphone to produce images and video packages suitable for publishing in external media and internal comms (training provided).
