This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional communications professional to lead and enhance the communications capability of the organisation.

Reporting into the director of communications and engagement, this is a newly created, senior leadership role contributing to the overall direction, leadership and delivery of Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust’s (KMPT) communications strategy and team. 

As deputy director of communications and engagement, you will lead the communications team to transform the way KMPT communicates and engages its audiences (internal and external) to raise and protect the reputation of KMPT and to support our mission of Brilliant Care through Brilliant People. You will use the full range of communications tools available to maximise the impact and reach of our work. This includes internal communications, branding and design, digital communications, press and media handling, publications and stakeholder communications.

You will be responsible for shaping, delivering and evaluating communications strategies and campaigns; ensuring that our internal communications activity is aligned, timely and consistent, and meets the needs of our staff; providing strategic communications and reputation management counsel; building relationships with the media and proactively working at a national level to promote the Trust’s work; leading and supporting the team. 

Main duties:

  • To shape, deliver and evaluate outcome focused external and internal communications campaigns and activities that raise the profile of KMPT nationally and improve engagement among our people
  • To work closely with the director of communications and engagement to shape and implement a new communications strategy, covering both internal and external communications and to help shape new policies, procedures and ways of working in the team and Trust wide
  • To lead and oversee delivery of external, internal and digital communications strategies and approaches, ensuring that the team delivers consistent, integrated and evaluated communications
  • To provide strategic communications and reputation management counsel (including in the event of a crisis) to the chief executive, executive management team and senior leaders, ensuring they have confidence in our communications strategy, approach and handling
  • To build relationships with the media and proactively work at a national level to promote the Trust’s work. 
  • To develop and drive innovation and improvement in how we communicate
  • To lead and support the team to work effectively individually and together
  • To ensure that  internal communications activity to our 3,600 people is aligned, timely and consistent, and meets the needs of our staff
  • To support good relationships with key stakeholders across the Kent and Medway Integrated Care System (ICS) and support KMPT’s relationship with government locally and nationally.
