This is an exciting opportunity to join our successful and collaborative Public Relations and Advertising teaching team, helping the next generation of PR and Advertising professionals to develop both their practice skills and their understanding of the concepts and theories which underpin that practice.

You may currently be working as a PR or Advertising professional, or you may be a ‘hybrid’ practitioner, with experience both in practice and in teaching at University level. We are looking for someone with a critical understanding of the PR or Advertising professions, the current issues in those professions and how they are changing, along with a commitment to help students from all backgrounds to achieve the best they can.

The successful candidate should be able to use international PR practice and research to benefit the learning of our diverse student groups at both UG and PG level. Ideally, we looking for someone who can apply academic theory to communications practice based on their own professional and academic experience. The role is about enabling students to understand and engage with contemporary and emerging PR practice in a range of societal contexts.

The successful candidate should be able to build and sustain links with industry. This could include guest speakers, networking and encouraging students to access industry training, and even acting as a thought leader within the PR sector.

The modules you teach - to be agreed with you depending on your skills, experience and interests - might include: Storytelling Across Platforms, Creative Industries & Professional Life, Strategy & Marketing Communications and Persuasion (all UG), Propaganda & Influence (a PG module).

There are opportunities to run our work placement year or study abroad streams for PR and Advertising students, and to run the PR and Advertising pathway within our BA Digital Media. If you are research active, you will be part of our research institute CAMRI, whose research was rated in REF 2014 as 52% world-leading and 87% internationally excellent.

Our pioneering MA in Public Relations was the first in London. It is endorsed by both the PRCA and the CIPR. Our BA Public Relations and Advertising, now part of our Digital Media BA, smashed the sector subject NSS rankings in 2021. We are ranked top 10 among UK institutions for Communication and Media Studies in the QS World University Rankings 2021. The University is also ranked 4th in the UK in the Complete University Guide 2022 for Research Quality in Communication and Media Studies and listed in the top 10 in the UK for Journalism, PR and advertising in The Guardian University Guide 2022.
