MEDIA & PR OFFICER

ROYAL COLLEGE OF SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPISTS

Are you passionate about PR with a proven track record of generating compelling media coverage at trade, regional or national level? Do you have a flair for writing content for different audiences and communications channels to drive engagement and build brand profile? And, do you have the ability to remain calm in a crisis or where there are conflicting deadlines you need to meet?

At the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) we’re looking for a highly organised, enthusiastic, self-starter to help us to deliver top-quality media coverage and engaging social media and communications, which speak to both the public and our 20,000+ members.

Working in a busy, high-performing Communications & Engagement team, the Media & PR Officer will play an important role in helping the RCSLT to deliver PR initiatives and campaigns which contribute towards raising its profile and highlighting the vital work that speech and language therapists do to support people to communicate, and eat and drink safely.

In this role, you’ll build contacts with journalists, facilitate media requests and proactively pitch stories to a variety of press about the RCSLT, the work of speech and language therapists, and their service users. You’ll also help to manage the RCSLT’s primary social media channels and gather, commission and post engaging content for a range of audiences.

To succeed in this role, you’ll have:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • First-class proactive and reactive media relations skills, including a great news sense
  • Solid and wide-ranging experience of previously working as a Media/Press Officer in a busy and creative media/press office team, preferably in the Health or Education Sector
  • A good track record of writing engaging press copy, proactively pitching media stories to the press, facilitating media requests – including organising media briefings and interviews, planning communications, and delivering top-notch social media content.
  • Superb communications planning experience and organisational skills
  • Knowledge of social media best practice.

In return, you’ll be part of a close-knit team, with opportunities for creativity, innovation and development.

If this sounds like the role for you, we’d love you to apply!

This will be a hybrid role, with a combination of home working and working from the RCSLT offices in London Bridge.
