The post holder will play a vital role within the communications team, helping to provide a high quality, professional and responsive internal communications and engagement function that supports and promotes Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust’s (KMPT) vision of Brilliant Care through Brilliant People.

This includes engaging our 3,600 staff on vital messages spanning: our strategy and priorities and how this is relevant to them; our ways of working including compliance and policy changes; the support, benefits and wellbeing we offer staff; and changes and transformation we are making. KMPT has ambitious plans to transform and improve mental health across Kent and Medway and to develop and retain its brilliant staff.

Main duties of the role

  • To help manage and support internal communications campaigns and activities that are aligned to the organisation’s mission, priorities and values
  • To provide internal communications support to colleagues
  • To build effective internal relationships across the organisation to help gather and identify information for internal communications
  • To support on internal engagement activities, including to help organise events
  • To write, produce and distribute internal communications including newsletters, good news staff stories, notices for bulletins and videos

Main responsibilities

  • Support the internal communications and engagement manager to plan, deliver and evaluate internal communications strategies and activities
  • Support the team to deliver communication and engagement plans for key projects, events and activities, ensuring work is delivered to a high quality
  • To deliver communications projects
  • To work with colleagues in design and digital to produce engaging content for internal audiences
  • To help manage the internal communications channels and to measure and report on their performance
  • To respond to internal requests and demands for internal communications
  • To provide advice and recommendations on internal communications to colleagues at all levels across the trust
  • To support the development of the intranet and website, provide support to colleagues with relevant content
  • Monitor and evaluate internal communications and present this information to senior colleagues in the communications team. Use this data to make recommendations on future plans and activities
  • Deputise for the internal communications and engagement manager as required
  • Work closely with the external communications officer to ensure communications are integrated and complementary across internal and external audiences and channels.
  • Ensure effective, timely communication and engagement with individuals and teams across the Trust, utilising communications channels and feedback mechanisms to best effect
  • Be proactive in identifying opportunities to develop yourself, others and the Trust’s communications
  • Keep databases and contacts of key stakeholders up to date
  • Create content for digital channels including the intranet, staff app, social media channels.
  • Support budget and finance activities, including procurement and management of external suppliers. Be aware of and comply with procurement processes and ensure suppliers are delivering value for money.
  • Commission graphic design for campaigns and other corporate communications. Ensure that all Trust information meets NHS corporate identity guidelines and the Trust’s style guide.
  • Evaluate internal communications activity and report this to the director and senior colleagues.
  • Manage the internal communications strategic calendar and identify potential clashes, and offer solutions to the internal communications manager.
  • Align internal communications with change programme delivery milestones
  • Advise on and support the implementation of feedback mechanisms to measure staff engagement and the effectiveness of internal communications
  • To help maintain the Trust intranet and website by advising, uploading and amending information
  • To help provide an accurate and creative copy writing and proof-reading service
