Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. We inspect and regulate services that care for children and young people, and services providing education and skills for learners of all ages.

Our work generates a great deal of public and media scrutiny, and every day can present a new challenge for our busy external communications team. Joining our specialist team of media officers, you will be tasked with supporting a professional news service, generating coverage of Ofsted’s work across print, broadcast, digital and social media. You will create engaging media content aimed at key audiences, and directly engage with journalists to sell in stories. You will respond swiftly to breaking news and spot opportunities to influence reporting. And you’ll help us provide a 24-hour, 365-day service to the media – for which an allowance and overtime is payable.

This is a fast-paced environment that requires flexibility, the ability to think on your feet and the confidence to brief senior leaders on media and presentational issues. With a keen eye for a story, your sharp news sense will be matched by excellent verbal and written communication skills.

If you have at least one year’s experience in a press office, news room, parliamentary office or PR environment you could be the next great addition to our friendly and talented media team. In return, you will gain plenty of training and career development opportunities, as well as a generous annual leave and benefits package.

Ofsted operates a hybrid working approach, allowing colleagues to benefit from time in the office, with the flexibility also to work from home. Our expectation is that you will spend at least 60% of your time working in your office, or at external meetings or events. The exact balance will depend on the nature of your role and the suitability of your home environment, and will be discussed and agreed with your line manager.

Ofsted is committed to maintaining employee health and wellbeing, whether it is physically, emotionally, financially or socially, and offers a range of benefits to support employees in this. Such benefits include the option to join the Civil Service Pension Scheme, professional and personal development opportunities, 32.5 annual leave days per annum (plus eight days public holiday) and counselling and advisory services for you and your family.
