Crown Estate Scotland has an exciting opportunity for a Communications Manager to join our team on a full-time fixed-term (13 months) basis, working across all aspects of our internal and external communications.

This person will work with colleagues to raise awareness of Crown Estate Scotland among key stakeholders, helping to spread the core messages which will support delivery of our corporate plan.

They will also seek to protect and enhance the reputation of the organisation through a broad range of channels.

About the role

The successful candidate for this new role will be involved in an exciting range of projects and activities including:

• Working with colleagues to research and develop content (in line with brand guidelines) and plan dissemination through a range of channels including website, social media, publications etc

• Identifying great stories relating to Crown Estate Scotland and writing succinct and compelling copy

• Managing the preparation and production of corporate publications

• Supporting the drive of our digital communications, by

• Planning and scheduling engaging social media content

• Working with our web developer to continually review and improve website functionality and user-experience

• Regularly updating website content to ensure it is engaging, consistent, and transparent

• Scheduling and distributing e-newsletters to relevant audiences

• Managing our internal communications

• Leading on management and delivery of events, both internal and external

• Supporting planning, monitoring and evaluation across communications activity.

The contractual working location of this role is our Edinburgh office. However, we believe work is something you do, not a place you go to, and we are committed to supporting employees to work flexibly and in a way that suits their own role and preferences.

The salary will be £39,353.50 per annum. The role also benefits from 25 days’ annual leave, increasing to 30 days after four years’ service, plus 11.5 of public / privilege days. Crown Estate Scotland encourage flexible working and operate a discretionary flexi-time scheme. This role offers participation in the Civil Service pension scheme. Contribution levels for the scheme are currently 5.45% employee contribution at the entry salary for this role whilst Crown Estate Scotland contribution levels are 27.1%.

About You

Candidates for this role should:

• Hold a degree in a relevant subject (e.g. PR, communications, politics) or equivalent

• Hold CIPR/CIM accreditation or membership and be able to evidence CPD

• Have experience of effective use of digital channels and social media

• Have experience of designing and delivering campaigns

• Possess excellent writing skills – you will be able to identify key points on any issue and translate these into clear succinct messages

• Have experience of working either in a communications/PR department (in-house or agency)

• Know how to use internal communications effectively to enhance employee engagement

You will have the following qualities, which are key to success in this role:

• The ability to identify and develop strong stories

• The ability to engage effectively with internal and external contacts and represent the organisation in a positive light

• The ability to work well under pressure and deliver tight deadlines

• Strong respect for confidentiality, and a clear understanding of its importance

• Excellent attention to detail

• Excellent IT skills across Microsoft 365, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint.
