Associate Director / Account Manager, Financial Services PR, London (Maternity Leave cover: Aug 2022 - Jul 2023 with potential for permanent role)

BackBay Communications, an award-winning and fast-growing public relations, content development and digital marketing consultancy focused on the financial services industry, is offering a 12-month maternity cover Associate Director position in its London office. There is the potential for permanent employment at the end of the contract, subject to individual performance and agency needs.

Based in a vibrant office space in Soho and offering flexible working, you’ll be joining the small, friendly, and driven London team of a Boston (US) headquartered consultancy with an exciting roster of top tier clients spanning financial technology, private equity, impact/ESG investing and asset management. This role provides an opportunity to further enhance your client relationship and campaign management skills with plenty of scope for new business development, in a collegiate and supportive environment.

Capabilities/Responsibilities

An Associate Director or Account Manager should have a mastery of the following skills and perform them with the support of an Account Executive, Senior Account Executive, and Account Coordinator where appropriate. 

  • Account management
    • Help create and manage PR progammes for a range of financial services clients by researching conferences, reporters, editorial calendars, and awards using database tools, Google and Lexis/Nexis searches, and competitor analysis, and create lists and recommendations
    • Create quarterly or monthly client reports using PowerPoint, analyse trends, design reports
  • Media relations
    • Draft media pitches and news releases
    • Monitor print and online news, blogs and social media to identify and track client opportunities
    • Identify and pitch specific media based on relevance for clients’ specific news 
    • Proactively identifying opportunities for clients to comment on relevant breaking news stories
    • Develop and nurture relationships with journalists and other influencers
    • Track media coverage and write coverage reports
  • Client relations
    • Develop client relations through the drafting of call agendas, communicating with clients on ongoing projects and participating in client calls
    • An Associate Director / Account Manager should ensure ongoing client satisfaction and work closely with Directors to maintain long-term client relationships
  • New business 
  • Participate in new business pitches
  • Develop new business decks
  • Create client case studies
  • Social, digital & marketing
  • A strong understanding of the public relations and marketing tools that can be deployed for clients, and the ability to counsel the team and clients on options to use them to achieve their business objectives
  • Help manage clients’ social media programmes, by planning and drafting posts, and running sponsored post campaigns 
  • Learn and utilise marketing tools such as Google Analytics, Google AdWords, email marketing platforms (Constant Contact/Mailchimp), social media and other digital marketing platforms as needed 
  • BackBay Ambassador
  • An Associate Director should be an external ambassador and internal advocate for BackBay with a positive and professional attitude and lead other team members by example
  • Management
  • An Associate Director should support Directors in building a cohesive and collaborative team, utilizing their existing skillsets and helping them to develop needed additional skills
  • Support Directors in identifying staffing needs and interviewing candidates to build the team as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum four years of PR agency or journalism experience, preferably in the financial services industry
  • Demonstrated writing, editing/proofreading, and verbal/presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage effective media relations & social media programmes
  • Demonstrated project management skills with ability to juggle competing assignments, meet deadlines, be proactive, own initiatives and be successful
  • Ability to work independently and with a small team
