Leeds - Main Campus and Flexible Working

This role will be based on the university campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

Are you an exceptional communications professional, with a proven track record of delivering cutting-edge campaigns that build global reputations? Can you create campaigns that align with organisational ambition and strategy, as well as identify and create opportunities for our voice to be heard? Can you build relationships with key stakeholders, internally and externally, including with opinion formers and influencers across the globe?

The University of Leeds is one of the top 135 universities in the world.  We have a truly global community, with more than 39,000 students from 170 different countries and over 9,000 staff of 100 different nationalities.  Established in 1904, we have a strong tradition of academic excellence, reflected in first-class student education, along with world-leading research that has a real impact around the globe.

We are seeking an accomplished, experienced and self-motivated communications practitioner to help us build our reputation among a range of influencers and audiences including global, national and sector media outlets, research funders, higher education institutions, policy makers and partners and potential partners across the globe.

Working in our Engagement and Advocacy team you will play a key role in delivering the University’s communications and engagement strategy;  promoting our education, research, digital innovation and partnerships internationally, and building the University’s reputation for working towards solving global inequalities and creating a fairer future for all.

A strong self-starter, you will bring experience in building strong relationships with key delivery partners, and proven expertise in developing these relationships to build brand and reputation.

Excellent political judgement and horizon scanning will be vital to understand and leverage the environment in which we operate and to ensure we build on political, social and economic factors to demonstrate the contribution the University is making to meet the global challenges facing the world.

This appointment comes at a particularly exciting time for the University, as it begins delivering a strategy for the next 10 years that centres on three key themes – culture, community and impact, all within a focus on driving down inequalities and creating the next generation of global citizens.

What we offer in return

  • 25 days holiday plus 15.5 Bank Holidays/days that the University is closed by custom (including Christmas) – That’s over 40 days a year!
  • Generous pension scheme – the University contributes 21.6% of salary
  • Health and Wellbeing: Discounted staff membership options at The Edge, our state-of-the-art Campus gym, with a pool, sauna, climbing wall, cycle circuit, and sports halls.
  • Personal Development: Access to courses run by our Organisational Development & Professional Learning team, and self-development courses including languages, Creative Writing, Wellbeing Therapies and much more.
  • Access to on-site childcare, shopping discounts and travel schemes are also available.

And much more!
