External Communications Manager

Based in St Albans/Hybrid WFH

Purpose:

Responsible for protecting and strengthening the Company’s reputation through corporate, consumer, trade and social media engagement.

What you'll be doing:

  • To build the reputation of this FTSE250 food business, its strategy and its brands by developing a compelling and engaging proactive corporate PR agenda, working closely with Investor Relations, partner agencies and other key business units
  • Provide strategic counsel to members of the senior team and Executive Leadership Team
  • Build, develop and maintain high quality relationships with key target media
  • Manage the business’ press cuttings agency and deliver timely and effective day-to-day media monitoring across the business
  • Respond to reactive corporate media enquiries, defending the business’ reputation as required
  • Develop media material in support of quarterly, half year and full year trading updates, working closely with the investor relations team to showcases our brands, consumer trends and group strategy in action.
  • Coordinate an ongoing proactive media engagement programme for the Executive Leadership Team
  • Devise, manage and implement a sustainable corporate social media strategy for the business
  • Act as key day-to-day contact for corporate PR agency and social media agency
  • Manage a budget
  • Support senior leaders with developing and managing reactive media opportunities, providing direction and counsel as appropriate
  • Support the Corporate Affairs Director with issues and crisis management as required
  • Build strong links with marketing and provide oversight and advice on key materials and consumer PR activity, signing off consumer PR agency content
  • Stay abreast of and update the business on wider business and industry trends and issues
  • Work with the wider communications team, to ensure a coordinated approach to communications and content sharing
  • Provide additional support to the wider communications team as needed

What we need from you:

Competencies:

  • Demonstrable professional experience of working within public relations
  • Proven track record of effectively managing media enquiries and reactive issues
  • Experience in running successful proactive corporate PR campaigns
  • Ability to write and edit content for a range of audiences and channels
  • Creative flair in packaging up engaging proactive news stories
  • Media relations is by nature fast paced, so this role requires someone who can deliver quick responses and work to multiple deadlines
