If you had to go to A&E, you would want to know you were getting the best care possible. You would want that for your family. You would want that for your friends. And that’s what we want too.

At the Royal College of Emergency Medicine it is our role to support and develop those working in emergency medicine in the UK and beyond. We influence Government policy, provide expert guidance and advice on matters relating to Emergency Medicine, support research and provide training. Our work supports patients worldwide and the people who care for them.

As Communications and Marketing Officer, you will develop and deliver multi-media communication campaigns and plans for internal and external audiences, in order to enhance the profile and reputation of The College.

The two Communications and Marketing Officer roles are exciting new vital positions at the College, as you will engage with the media and enhance our membership, communicate internally with college staff and influence key external stakeholders.

Reporting to the Communications Manager, you will deal with all aspects of media relations, including researching, drafting and issuing press releases, whilst providing briefings and preparing College spokespeople for media interviews, accompanying them as required. You will also organise and facilitate media interviews – owning relationships with journalists – and act as first port of call for media enquiries on behalf of the College.

You will identify communications and media opportunities, including the use of data analysis to form news stories, and, under direction, lead and create integrated (digital and offline) campaigns, including developing video, audio and visual content which drive new audiences, whilst retaining and growing existing audiences.

With a relevant journalism, marketing or communications qualification or with equivalent experience, you should have a background in a communications role and an understanding of the role of a press office.

Experience of delivering against communications plans and strategies and of creating and developing communications and marketing campaigns to target different audiences is essential, whilst a background of delivering campaigns with income generation and of working within a membership organisation, would be desirable.

With the ability to build and maintain strong relationships you should have excellent communication, organisational and planning skills and be adept at creating and editing audio and visual content for digital channels.

A knowledge of the NHS and health sector across a range of policy areas would be beneficial, along with knowledge of how traditional and social media works, including maximising opportunities with social media to increase engagement.

At RCEM diversity, equality and inclusion is an integral part of our culture so it is important to us that this is reflected in everything that we do. We welcome applications from all individuals irrespective of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion or belief, disability, marital status or parental responsibilities to ensure we actively embrace an inclusive and representative culture that encourages, supports and celebrates our differences.

For further information and to apply, please send your CV and covering letter via the email application link. Please draw upon your experiences in your life, education, work, or voluntary roles to address to the points outlined in the Person Specification which can be found on our website.

It is essential that a comprehensive cover letter is provided in order to be considered for shortlisting.

Closing date: 16 June 2023.
