Our job is to secure a safer future for us alI. We do this by managing and disposing of the UK’s nuclear radioactive waste safely and securely for generations to come. We have a critical role in the biggest multi-decade clean-up project in Europe. As part of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) group, we provide permanent answers for nuclear waste.

Our strategic objectives are built to be enduring and responsive to influences from the global and nuclear landscape as it evolves and changes. We prioritise working with and doing the right thing for our people, partners, customers, and communities where we operate. Our reputation and brand are essential for us to be trusted to make radioactive waste permanently safe sooner, and to enable us to attract the best talent across multiple industries. Our reach is bigger than the UK, we collaborate, learn, and share internationally – especially for our goal to create a geological disposal facility, a first for the UK.  It means our presence and influence with government, academics, the media, local communities, industry, and our colleagues are an essential part of our journey and future success.

We are now seeking a new Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Director to join our Corporate Services Leadership team. This senior leadership post owns the development and deployment of strategies for internal and external stakeholder engagement and communications that showcase, develop, and protect the reputation of NWS, enabling us to realise the benefits of our ambitious mission.

The Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Director will also be accountable for a wide range for responsibilities including managing media / social media relations, co-ordinating the needs of core and future stakeholders, accountable for the initial response that poses a threat to reputation and brand. As well as employee engagement to underpin our ‘great place to work’ aspirations, conscious of having employees represented in our decision making.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of cultivating and nurturing influential relationships, demonstrating the ability to understand and facilitate the needs of key stakeholders. An experienced communications leader, they will have successfully devised and implemented innovative communication and engagement strategies. An ability to analyse and understand complex issues and make systematic and rationale judgement based on relevant information is key. A team player, collaborative and with strong interpersonal skills who can commit to promoting and living the values of NWS.

This is a hugely exciting, challenging and rewarding position in which decisions over the coming years can carry weight for the next generation and beyond.  For further details or to have a confidential conversation about the role and your suitability, contact GatenbySanderson consultants;

Company

Nuclear Waste Services brings together the UK’s leading nuclear waste management capabilities

We have integrated the expertise of Low Level Waste Repository (LLWR), Radioactive Waste Management (RWM), and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) group’s Integrated Waste Management Programme (IWMP). This creates an organisation focused on the management of the UK’s nuclear waste, safely and securely for generations to come.

We are part of the NDA group, which is undertaking the biggest clean-up project in Europe over many decades. Nuclear Waste Services is integral to this environmental clean-up mission, as we work to provide permanent answers to our country’s nuclear waste. The UK has been producing and managing radioactive waste on an industrial scale since the 1940s. However, today’s approach and capabilities for waste management need to adapt to keep pace with NDA’s decommissioning ambitions. This includes its commitment to recycle 50% of waste from decommissioning and reduce secondary wastes by around 70% by 2030.
