Who are you?
An ambitious reporter with a keen eye for a good story and the motivation to pursue it. The reporter will be a vital part of our team, working on all of our channels across our two core brands: Health & Safety International (HSI) and AWE International (AWE).
Who are we?
HSI produces up to the minute content for occupational health and safety professionals who work in the UK and Europe, and the Middle East region. HSI consists of daily online news, two print magazines, and quarterly webinars. AWE is the leading brand focused on the environmental impacts of industry and the latest research in environmental monitoring. This global brand includes online news, a print magazine and a podcast. The majority of our team is based in Weymouth and our head office is in Twickenham – the reporter can choose either location but will need to spend a certain amount of time in Weymouth.
Responsibilities
The reporter will work under the Editor and be responsible for sourcing and publishing compelling stories each day, for conducting interviews, sending out bulletins and managing the social media accounts. They will contribute to larger reports and to podcasts occasionally, and may even help to host events if required. The ideal person will be brimming with ideas and interest in delivering informative content that drives audience engagement.
The reporter’s duties will include:
Writing original daily news on the website for the European and Middle East audiences Researching potential articles and building knowledge of the subject areas Drafting and scheduling daily and weekly bulletins Monitoring the editorial inbox and supporting certain admin tasks Contributing articles to the print magazines Conducting inspiring interviews Run the social media channels alongside the Editor Supporting the team to produce podcast episodes Support events, with content ideas and hosting, where necessary Deputising for the Editor, when required.
Skills / Experience / Knowledge / Minimum Criteria
The ideal candidate would have the following experience and qualities:
- A journalist with either a degree in Journalism or English, or an equivalent such as an NCTJ is preferred, but a creative background will be considered
- An eye for news and current affairs, for following trends and spotting a story
- A talented communicator who can immerse themselves in a specialist subject and understand the key people, organisations and trends
- Eager to take ownership of a patch Have experience of writing, particularly to daily deadlines Excellent grasp of social media strategies and how to grow audiences
- Experience of podcasts, in researching, scripting and producing.
