Job Description:
My client is seeking a dynamic Communications Manager to join their team, working closely with the Head of Communications and the broader External Engagement Team. The successful candidate will manage and execute the company’s engagement, strategic communications, and marketing strategy. Key to success in this role will be the ability to build strong relationships within the team, collaborating with all parts of the organization as well as external communications agencies, private sector partners, and government entities. The Communications Manager’s day-to-day responsibilities will include managing critical aspects of the communications program, engaging finance and political audiences, NGOs, market experts, and consumers at pivotal moments.
The Communications Manager will play a vital role in shaping the organization’s overall strategic communications program, introducing innovative and creative ideas to inform and educate stakeholders, align programs, and enhance the brand and reputation. This includes developing corporate messaging, digital strategy, executive communications, and delivering industry-leading events and thought leadership. They will ensure a consistent ‘red thread’ throughout all communications, coaching key stakeholders to align with the organization’s strategic pillars.
Key Duties:
- Collaborate with the Head of Communications to develop the forward-looking communications master plan grid.
- Lead the creation and promotion of strategic and programmatic work across press, social media, internal assets, and events to influence and build advocacy with external stakeholders.
- Monitor the news agenda, ensuring relevant coverage is amplified across the company’s channels.
- Plan, deliver, and evaluate communications using a variety of channels.
- Produce high-quality, well-written content for a range of audiences and channels, including the website.
- Coordinate and manage day-to-day communications activities, working with priority stakeholders across media and digital platforms.
- Uphold a ‘One-Team’ approach to communications and external affairs, working closely with senior stakeholders to drive strategically aligned outcomes.
- Foster relationships with key journalists, identify areas of strength and weakness, and track impact and delivery.
- Manage and build strong relationships with media and stakeholders, proactively seeking out media opportunities to promote and protect the company’s integrity.
- Take ownership of reputation management, identifying potential issues and working with colleagues to minimize impact.
- Support the management of a best-in-class Communications function, ensuring effective risk mitigation and communication.
- Oversee social media channel activation, focusing on the company’s core messages and posting content where required.
- Manage external agency partners, ensuring accountability for delivery and budgets.
- Provide thoughtful media counsel and media training to senior leaders and spokespeople.
- Identify opportunities to improve content performance and delivery, implementing ideas and sharing best practices.
- Act as an ambassador for the company in all professional interactions, both internally and externally.
Essential Experience:
- Proven ability to deliver a holistic communications and engagement function across multiple programs.
- Experience coordinating and executing projects and events within set budgets, with a strong focus on quality and follow-through.
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills with team members, partner organizations, senior-level officials, and influencers.
- Agility and enthusiasm to adapt to various business areas and topics, with experience managing sensitive issues and crises.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively within a fast-paced environment.
- Creative flair and the ability to translate technical content into engaging campaigns across multiple channels.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to solve problems with sound judgment and analysis, often under tight deadlines.
- Capable of working independently, within a team, and leading others.
- Strong commercial focus with external awareness of market, industry, and regulatory issues.
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude and energy, contributing to the team’s success.
- Willingness to adopt a solutions-based approach to day-to-day delivery.
- Commitment to developing and embedding skills to support a holistic communications approach.
- Ability to maintain a thoughtful and purposeful approach to delivering communications that enhance the company’s brand, even under pressure.
- Ability to see the ‘bigger picture’ and contribute to a centralized communications team that supports a growing and ambitious organization.
